MOSCOW, December 28 (Sputnik) — Representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic confirmed on Sunday that they will meet Monday to discuss a number of pending issues.

“We will consider a number of issues, such as measures to stop fire, the work of the coordination center in Donetsk, safety of the monitors who are working for this unit,” said Ukrainian Armed Forces spokesman Vladislav Seleznev.

Earlier on Sunday, the press-center of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said that a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian forces had been scheduled for Monday and would be attended by the republic’s Defense Minister Vladimir Kononov.

According to local media reports, the sides are set to discuss the exchange of prisoners, however, Seleznev stated that he had no information on whether prisoner swaps would be on the agenda.

"So far I know that the meeting will be held tomorrow and that a statement will be made regarding its results," he said.

Residents of the eastern Ukrainian Donetsk region, as well as neighboring Luhansk, established people’s republics that later declared their independence after a coup in February. The Ukrainian conflict escalated in April, when Kiev launched a military operation against the independence supporters.

Following months of bloodshed, the sides agreed on a ceasefire deal in September. Despite repeatedly accusing each other of violating the truce, Kiev and eastern Ukrainian militia have carried out several prisoner swaps, with the latest taking place on Friday.
