One Dead in Ukraine’s Odessa Blast: Reports

The preliminary investigation has found that a man aged up to 45 years walked in the street and carried a bag with, supposedly, an explosive device.

MOSCOW, December 27 (Sputnik) –  An explosion in Odessa left one man dead, a local police spokesperson Vladimir Shablienko said Saturday. The incident occurred in the street while explosives were being transported, according to the official.

"There is some preliminary information about the incident in the Segedskaya Street. One person was killed. He has not been identified yet," Shablienko wrote on Facebook.

The incident was reported to a police station at 4.50 a.m. local time. Local police officials, an investigation team and a bomb squad arrived at the explosion site.

"The preliminary investigation has found that a man aged up to 45 years walked in the street and carried a bag with, supposedly, an explosive device. The blast was occasional. The body of the man was thrown by blast on the road," police said in a statement.

The blast damaged windows and balconies of nearby houses. No other injuries have been reported.

On December 24, an unknown person detonated a bomb at a railroad when a freight train was nearing. A day before, a public security vehicle was exploded.

On December 10, a blast hit the Admiralsky business center in Odessa. No people were injured. Police deemed the incident a terrorist attack.
