MOSCOW, December 25 (Sputnik) – Michelle Obama, the wife of US President Barack Obama, volunteered for the North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Tracks Santa project and answered the phone calls from children on Christmas, the White House said Thursday.
It is the fifth time Michelle Obama has participated in NORAD's annual entertainment program and helped children around the world track the latest location of Santa's sleigh, according to the White House Twitter account.

"The president believes in Santa very much, yes," Michelle Obama was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have been tracking Santa's journey for more than 50 years. Back in 1955 Sears Roebuck & Co department store placed an advertisement in the Colorado Springs newspaper saying that US children could call Santa Claus, but misprinted the telephone number. Instead, children who called the number got through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief. Since then NORAD has been using its radar system, satellites and special Santa Cams to track Santa's annual journey.
