Moscow Regrets Pakistan's Decision to Execute Russian Citizen Akhlaq
MOSCOW, December 22 (Sputnik) — The mother of Russian national Akhlas Akhlaq who was executed in the Pakistani city of Faisalabad is leaving for Pakistan on Monday evening to discuss repatriating Akhlaq's body, as told to Sputnik News Agency by the mother's friend Katerina.

In an interview with Sputnik, Katerina said that Akhlaq's mother was to travel on a flight leaving at 6:55 p.m. Moscow time (15:55 GMT).

"[Akhlaq's father] and an embassy representative will meet us there," Katerina added.

Upon Akhlaq's mother's arrival, the issue of transporting his body back to Russia for burial will be discussed.

On December 21, Akhlaq was executed in the Pakistani city of Faisalabad, accused of attempting to assassinate Pakistan's former president in 2003.

The moratorium was lifted on December 17 after Taliban militants killed more than 140 people, including 132 children, in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.
