EDINBURGH, December 18 (Sputnik) — The privatization of Royal Mail was "botched from day one," Scottish MP Mike Weir said in a statement following a report published Thursday about the sale of the United Kingdom's postal service.

"Yet more evidence that the privatisation of Royal Mail has been a complete botch up from day one," Weir, a Scottish member of parliament from the National Party, said in a statement. "This report shows that the government could have made millions more for the taxpayer from this rushed, ill thought through sell off — but didn't."

The report, commissioned by Business Secretary Vince Cable, found that the British government could have made an additional 120 million pounds ($187 million) to 180 million pounds had the sale of Royal Mail been managed more efficiently.
