Russia's Baltic Fleet frigate ship, the Yaroslav Mudry, will head for its destination in the Mediterranean, where it will join the permanent Russian Navy task force in the region.

MOSCOW, December 18 (Sputnik) — Russia's Baltic Fleet frigate ship, the Yaroslav Mudry, has begun its passage through the Suez Canal and is headed for the Mediterranean after drills in the Red Sea, the Western Military District said in a statement released Thursday.

"After finishing the passage, the ship will head for its destination in the Mediterranean, where it will join the permanent Russian Navy task force in the region," the statement said.

On Wednesday, the frigate carried out survivability military drills in the Red Sea.

The Yaroslav Mudry left the Russian Navy's main base for its Baltic Fleet in the city of Baltiysk on August 9. The ship has traveled about 25,000 miles, calling at ports in Malta, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and several other countries.
