US Department of State spokesperson announced in a statement that a power line outage left the main building of the department without power this morning.

WASHINGTON, December 15 (Sputnik) – A power line outage left the main building of the US Department of State without power this morning, some employees had to relocate, according to a statement by the spokesperson Jen Psaki released on Monday.

“This morning during construction at the 21st Street entrance, one of the power lines that serves the Main State building was accidentally severed. This has resulted in a power outage at the State Department,” Psaki said.

The personnel were forced to relocate, the State Department spokesperson added.

"All non-emergency personnel are being relocated to other offices or will tele-commute for the remainder of the day," Psaki said in a statement.

Psaki added that a generator was being used to operate all of the agency’s emergency systems, but that it would take several hours for the local electric company to restore regular power.
