Shop Owner Accuses Airport Authorities of Letting Cat Break Into Outlet

A cat broke into a fish shop, eating seafood and damaging other food supplies. A shop owner has issued an official complaint to Vladivostok International Airport.

MOSCOW, December 12 (Sputnik) – The owner of the shop that suffered an invasion yesterday by a cat, which ate fish and other seafood worth 63,000 rubles (over $1,000), at Vladivostok International Airport, has issued an official complaint to the airport authorities.

“A company that owns the shop issued an official complaint to Vladivostok International Airport following the situation that occurred on Thursday. We are now verifying what has happened and soon will make a decision. We don’t quite understand how the cat got inside the shop. All retail outlets are closed during the night, refrigerators should also be shut. In our opinion, it is responsibility of the shop to ensure the safety of their products,” an official representative of the airport said.

On Thursday, a ginger cat sneaked into the shop during the night, allegedly, through a window. While in the shop, the cat indulged in fish and squid supplies, scratched food packages and otherwise spoiled other food. The total damage caused by the cat was 63,000 rubles (a little over $1,000).

The cat lives near the airport and often comes into the terminal building, the shop owner said. “I often see him nearby. Maybe someone around here feeds him,” the shopkeeper said.

It is prohibited to keep animals in the airport due to safety and health requirements. The airport authorities have agreements with specialized agencies to carry out various sanitary measures, which normally should exclude finding any stray animals in the airport’s terminals.
