"Starting from December 1, 2014 citizens of the Russian Federation are exempt from visa requirements for entry into the territory of Tunisia," the association said, citing a statement it had received from the Embassy of Tunisia in Moscow.

Russian citizens with valid passports are now allowed to travel to Tunisia without a visa and stay in the country for a period of up to three months, the association clarified.

Before, Tunisia allowed Russians to stay on its territory without a visa for 14 days or less, the Russian Association of Tour Operators explained. The visa-free travel only applied to tourists, who took direct flights to the country from Russia and who had a voucher from a tour operator officially registered in Tunisia.
