UNITED NATIONS, December 4 (Sputnik) — UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is outraged by a recent attack on a United Nations convoy in Mogadishu, his spokesman has said in a statement.
"The Secretary-General is outraged by the terrorist attack in Mogadishu this morning, which damaged a convoy of United Nations vehicles and killed and injured several Somali bystanders and security personnel," the statement, released Wednesday, said.
"There were no United Nations staff among the casualties," the statement added.
According to his spokesman, Ban Ki-moon stresses that "there can be no justification for terrorism or such attacks".
On Wednesday, a suicide bomber rammed his car into a UN convoy near Mogadishu's airport, killing three people. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Al-Shabaab, a clan-based militant group, linked with the international terrorist organization al-Qaeda, took over most of southern Somalia in 2006. It later continued its insurgency in southern and central areas of the country, carrying out frequent gunfire and suicide attacks.
