MOSCOW, December 1 (Sputnik) — Former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown in a speech to his Kirkcaldy constituency on Monday will announce his resignation as a member of parliament at the next general election in the United Kingdom, the BBC reported.

The alleged announcement will mean that Brown will not run again as Labour MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath after having represented the two Scottish towns at Westminster since 1983.

Brown became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2007 and served until 2010, when the Conservative party, headed by the incumbent Prime Minister David Cameron, overtook the Labour by around seven percent and formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats.

Upon the termination of his premiership, Brown also stepped down as Labour Party leader, with Ed Miliband assuming the role.

Brown had not made many public appearances since the end of his term as Prime Minister until he came before the UK public as a staunch proponent of the Better Together campaign during the Scottish independence referendum in September of this year.
