Muslims Face Worst Job Discrimination Among Minority Groups in UK: Study

Muslims are the most disadvantaged group in the UK out of 14 ethno-religious groups in Britain, according to researchers.

MOSCOW, November 30 (Sputnik) — A new study has revealed that Muslims are facing the worst job discrimination amongst all minority group in the United Kingdom, as they have the lowest chances of being employed or holding a managerial position, the Independent reported Sunday.

Muslims are the most disadvantaged group in the United Kingdom out of 14 ethno-religious groups in Britain, according to the researchers Dr. Nabil Khattab and Professor Ron Johnson, who used data from the Office for National Statistics Labor Force Survey.

The results of the study showed that Muslim men were 76 percent less likely to have a job compared to a white, male British Christians of the same age. Muslim women were 65 percent less likely to be employed compared to white, Christian British women.

"If this persists, it could have long-term implications for the cohesion of the UK's multi-ethnic, multicultural society. The exclusion of well-qualified black and Muslim individuals could undermine their willingness to integrate in the wider society," Dr. Khattab said as quoted by the Independent.

In addition, the study noted that white British individuals of no religion were also less likely to find a job than Christians.

According to the study, the most successful ethno-religious group in terms of employment in the United Kingdom was British Jews. British Jewish women were 29 percent more likely to be employed, compared to white British Christian women, while British Jewish men were 15 percent more likely to find a job than their white, Christian male counterparts of the same age.
