MOSCOW, November 23 (Sputnik) — North Korea criticized the latest UN resolution blaming its leaders for human rights abuses and warned of tough counteraction measures against Japan and other countries responsible for the document initiation, the Japan Times reported on Sunday.
“Japan should bear in mind that if it continues behaving as now, it will disappear from the world map for good, not just remaining a near yet distant country,” representatives of North Korea’s National Defense Commission (NDC) said in a statement, cited by Japan Times.
They also promised tough response measures against the United States and EU countries, pointing out the possibility of conducting a new nuclear test.
"The US and its followers will be wholly accountable for the unimaginable and catastrophic consequences to be entailed by the frantic 'human rights' racket against the [North]," NDC announced, cited by Channel NewsAsia.
The resolution calling on the UN Security Council to refer North Korea's leaders to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for excessive human rights violations and "crimes against humanity" was introduced by Japan and the European Union last week. Russia and China objected to the resolution, claiming that it could have negative consequences on interstate relations and intensify political confrontation, according to the New York Times.
