Thousands of people reportedly took to the streets of Madrid voicing their views under the 'Every life matters' slogan.

MOSCOW, November 22 (Sputnik) — Thousands of people took to the streets of Madrid to take part in an anti-abortion rally, TVE reported Saturday.

"We are asking the Spanish society to express that we are fed up with abortions, that we do not want to get used to a society with one hundred thousand abortions each year," Benigno Blanco, the president of the Spanish Family Forum said in an interview with the TVE network.

The demonstrators voiced their views under the 'Every life matters' slogan.

On September 23, the Spanish government withdrew a controversial bill, proposed by the ruling People's Party (PP), that was to widely outlaw abortion in the country. According to the bill, abortion could be resorted to only if pregnancy posed a serious threat to the mother's health, or if it was a result of rape. The move came after the PP came in for criticism by the majority of Spain's population.
