The leaders of the Visegrad Four countries have promised political and economic support to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his reform, who is paying visit to Bratislava during the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.

PRAGUE, November 16 (Sputnik) — The leaders of the Visegrad Four countries – Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary – promised political and economic support to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who is currently on an official visit in Bratislava and his reform, Slovak information website Webnoviny reported Sunday.

“Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had a meeting on Sunday with the participants of the Visegrad Four Summit – the President of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski, the head of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman, the leader of Slovakia Andrej Kiska and the President of Hungary, Janos Ader,” Webnoviny said, adding that the current summit of the Visegrad Group marks the 25th anniversary of fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe.

According to the Slovak media, Poroshenko told his counterparts that Ukraine is currently going through the same processes their countries went through 25 years ago. “It’s not only Ukraine we are fighting for, but also Europe and its values,” Poroshenko said as quoted by Webnoviny. According to the media, the leaders of the Visegrad Four group discussed the current situation in Ukraine and promised full political and economic support to Poroshenko and his reforms.

As Poroshenko was arriving at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava, some 30 protesters met him shouting “fascist” and waving the flags of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of southeastern Ukraine.
