UNITED NATIONS, November 11 (Sputnik) — UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has resulted in constructive discussions, a statement by the United Nations said.

“The Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, had today constructive discussions with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Syrian government officials on the proposals he put forth to the Security Council on 30 October 2014, which addressed implementation of all relevant Security Council resolutions, including SCR 2170 and 2178,” the UN statement issued Monday said.

According to the statement, the Syrian authorities have voiced intentions to partner with the United Nations in a bid to find ways for the realization of "Freezes," a proposal by de Mistura to stop fighting in Aleppo.

“Mr. de Mistura takes note of the expressed intent of the Syrian authorities to work with the United Nations to identify common ground for implementing his proposal on incremental "Freezes", starting with the city of Aleppo, on the basis of the concept outlined in the Council briefing,” the statement added.

The statement also said the sides will hold more discussions and “intensified consultations” over de Mistura’s proposal.
