Russian companies are helping Peru to introduce mobile internet communications with the use of 4G wide-band data-transfer technologies, President Putin said after a meeting with his Peruvian counterpart.

NOVO OGARYOVO (outside Moscow), November 7 (RIA Novosti) — Russia and Peru are discussing the joint use of the Glonass satellite navigation system, President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

"Russian companies are helping Peru to introduce mobile internet communications with the use of 4G wide-band data-transfer technologies," Putin said after a meeting with his Peruvian counterpart, Ollanta Humala.

"We are also discussing the possibility of jointly using the Glonass global satellite navigation system," Putin said.

The Glonass project, which was launched in 1993, is considered to be Russia's answer to GPS (Global Positioning System).

The Glonass network currently consists of 28 satellites, including 24 operational, allowing real-time positioning and speed data for surface, sea and airborne objects around the globe.

Earlier on Friday, Humala and Putin also signed a number of agreements in the sphere of environmental protection and tourism, as well as a roadmap on the implementation of the intergovernmental commission's agreements regarding trade, economic and scientific partnership.
