The new decree is aimed at strengthening control over the work of various subway departments and ensuring passengers’ security.

MOSCOW, November 7 (RIA Novosti) — Moscow Metro managers are now required to go to work by subway, the Head of the Moscow Metro Dmitry Pegov stated, cited by Echo of Moscow.

"We must personally see and understand what is happening in our departments, how the work is going, what improvements and reworks are to be done," Pegov said, adding that he has recently signed a relevant decree, implying that all his deputies and heads of departments are to take subway when going to work.

Pegov admitted that he himself travels only this way. He spends about 35 minutes a day in the subway, changing from one line to another and standing in queues as an ordinary passenger.

Dmitry Pegov was appointed to the Head of the Moscow Metro on July 22, 2014. He took the job after the catastrophe in the Moscow subway, which happened on July 15, killing 24 passengers and injuring about 150 more. Pegov said that the tragedy was a result of non-compliance with relevant work instructions, serious violations of technical provisions as well as negligence, according to Lenta.ru.
