Passenger Train Partially Derailed in Sverdlovsk Region, No Injuries

A Moscow-bound passenger train and a freight train crashed in the Sverdlovsk region this morning, with part of the passenger train derailing. No injuries were reported.

MOSCOW, November 5 (RIA Novosti) — This morning a Moscow-bound passenger train traveling from Vladivostok crashed into a freight train in the village of Sabik in the Sverdlovsk region, resulting in the derailment of a locomotive and two mail cars.

None of the passenger train’s 280 passengers were injured, nor have any engineer or crew injuries been reported. The passengers have been examined by medical professionals who were brought in to perform preventative checks; they will accompany the passengers on their way to the city of Perm, just in case.

A commission has been set up to investigate the incident, headed by Sverdlovsk Railway chief Alexei Mironov, a statement from the company said.

The affected track is set to resume service by the end of the day; a temporary detour via the city of Perm has been organized, a statement from Sverdlovsk Railway confirmed. Passengers of the affected train, along with any others whose trains have been delayed by the incident, will be offered a full refund for their tickets.

Sverdlovsk Railway is a subsidiary of state-owned JSC Russian Railways.
