MEXICO CITY, October 30 (RIA Novosti) — The parents of 43 missing Mexican students have called on the government to investigate the case as state crime, their lawyer Vidulfo Rosales said.
The students' families have called on the Mexican government to investigate the case as a "state crime", starting with the fact that "the students were detained alive by the authorities," Rosales told RIA Novosti Wednesday, while traveling with a group of about 40 missing students' family members to meet with the President of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto.
The lawyer criticized the fact that the investigation was focused on finding the students' remains, as if it was certain that they were no longer alive.
On October 27, the newly elected interim governor of the Guerrero Mexican state set up a truth commission to investigate all the circumstances of the students' disappearance.
In late September, a group of students, rallying against an education reform in Iguala, was attacked by the police. Six students were killed, 17 wounded and 43 reported missing.
