KIEV, October 24 (RIA Novosti) - Medical facilities in the Ukrainian capital are ready to accept 1,500 Ebola-infected patients, according to two plans the city has drafted to combat the potential spread of the virus, Kiev authorities said Friday.

"In accordance with the first one [plan to combat Ebola], Kiev's hospitals have reserved 85 beds for adults and 52 for children. The second plan presupposes that the epidemic will spread. According to it [this presumption] we have reserved 1,500 beds," Kiev administration deputy chairman Mihail Radutsky was quoted as saying in a statement published on the administration's website.

The most recent figures by the World Health Organization (WHO), released October 22, show that the current outbreak of Ebola has claimed 4,877 lives. A total of 9,936 cases of confirmed, probable and suspected Ebola infections has been reported in five affected countries – Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Spain and the United States – and in Nigeria and Senegal, recently declared free of the deadly virus. No cases of Ebola have been registered in Ukraine so far.
