MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - The soldier, who was shot at Ottawa's National War Memorial, has died and a security guard has been wounded, Canada's Minister of Employment and Social Development Jason Kenney said Wednesday.

“Condolences to family of the soldier killed, & prayers for the Parliamentary guard wounded. Canada will not be terrorized or intimidated,” Kenney wrote on his Twitter account.

The soldier, who was standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, was shot by an unidentified gunman Wednesday morning. Canadian parliamentarian Bernard Trottier informed on his Twitter that the attacker had been shot and killed.

Gunshots were also fired Wednesday in the Canadian Parliament building and a mall in downtown Ottawa, according to local media reports.

Local police has advised residents to avoid going to the shooting site and to “stay away from windows and off roofs” in downtown Ottawa.

The incidents come just two days after a member of the Canadian Armed Forces was killed in a car attack in the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Quebec. Canada’s Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Steven Blaney said Tuesday that the attack is linked to terrorism.
