MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - The car attack on two Canadian soldiers that took place near Montreal on Monday is linked to terrorism, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Steven Blaney said Tuesday.

"What took place yesterday is clearly linked to terrorist ideology," Blaney told reporters, describing the attack as a "terrible act of violence against our country, against our military, against our values".

On Monday, two members of the Canadian Armed Forces were hit by a car in the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in Quebec. One of the soldiers died after the hit-and-run, while the other sustained less severe injuries, police said.

The attacker, identified by local media as 25-year-old Martin Rouleau, was shot dead by local police officers following a car chase.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Rouleau had "become radicalized" and was known to Federal authorities and counter-terrorism security forces.
