KIEV, October 20 (RIA Novosti) – The UK Ambassador to Ukraine Simon Smith has pledged the help of British specialists in order to find and bring the funds from former officials' offshore accounts back to Ukraine, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said in a Monday press release.
"Smith has assured that British specialists are ready to provide aid for Ukraine with regard to finding and returning of the money," the statement said.
According to the press release, during a meeting with Ambassador Smith, Ukraine's Prosecutor General Vitaly Yarema highlighted the country's steps to intensify the cooperation with foreign nations and international organizations to return the stolen funds and assets back to Ukraine.
Following the February coup, Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has filed dozens of criminal cases against former officials on corruption charges. Several criminal proceedings have been initiated against former President Viktor Yanukovych, who is accused of money laundering and unlawful enrichment.
