Spanish media accuses former spanish king Juan Carlos in support of Jorge Rafael Videla, argentine dictator.

MADRID, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - In the beginning of his ruling, Spanish King Juan Carlos, who after 35 years on throne abdicated this year in favor of his son Felipe, supported and financed Argentinian military dictatorship, Publico reported on Monday.

According to the newspaper, which refers to the official documents it obtained, Juan Carlos personally approved several agreements with the Argentinian regime of that time, headed by senior commander Jorge Rafael Videla.

Jorge Rafael Videla came to power in Argentina after a military coup in 1976. During Videla’s dictatorship, from 1976 to 1981 and country’s so-called Dirty war against dissidents, thousands of people were detained, abducted and murdered.

According to the government estimates at least 15,000 people were killed or disappeared, while several human rights officials say that the real number could be twice as high.

In 2010, Videla took responsibility for his army’s actions during the war and the same year he was sentenced to death. In 2013, in the age of 87, he died in Marcos Paz Prison in Buenos Aires.
