MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris has begun screening passengers arriving from Guinea for symptoms of Ebola on Saturday.
Passengers arriving from Guinea's capital, Conakry, were checked by French health authorities for signs of Ebola upon arrival to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, Haaretz reported.
The screenings are in accordance to plans announced on Thursday from French Health Minister, Marisol Touraine, for medical teams to check the temperatures of passengers arriving from Guinea, an Ebola-hit country in West Africa.
The deadly virus which has killed 4,555 people in seven countries, 4,546 of which were reported in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Among the Ebola-hit countries, Guinea is the only one France has continued to operate direct flights with.
Airport measures aimed at containing the ongoing Ebola epidemic have already been implemented in London's Heathrow Airport who began screening passengers arriving from West Africa for the virus on Tuesday, according to Haaretz. Canada and the United States have also introduced similar controls in airports.
France has not yet reported a local case of the virus yet, however a French nurse contracted Ebola while working in Liberia and made a full recovery in a Paris hospital.
According to WHO, a total of 9, 216 confirmed, probable, and suspected cases of Ebola virus have been Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Spain, and the United States of America up to the end of 14 October. WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in Senegal to be officially over.
