MOSCOW, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - 3D modelling will be used by Russian authorities to develop counterterrorism and security measures for the Moscow Metro by simulating security force emergency activities, m24.ru reported on Tuesday.

"3D modelling complex will help the Metro security service to develop plans for protection and defense of objects, compare specific solutions and choose optimal ones as well as plan special operations," a source told the newspaper.

The pilot project will be launched in 2015 at three metro stations - "Teatralnaya", "Okhotny Ryad" and "Ploshchad Revolutsii." 3D-models will contain detailed plans of stations, depots and tunnels as well as animated guards and assailants. They will replicate the subway’s features such as entrances, exits and video cameras, as well as create animated characters and calculate their speed, location, killing range and other characteristics.

Terrorist threats pose serious challenges to Russia’s security as terrorist acts increasingly occur in central, highly populated regions, including Moscow. In 2010 two suicide bombings carried out by “black widows” in the Moscow Metro had killed 40 passengers and injured 100 more.

The new 3D method will help to model various emergency situations, develop a scheme of interaction between different security services and establish efficient protection measures, raising Russia’s counterterrorism system to a new level.
