MOSCOW, October 14 (RIA Novosti) - Some two-thirds of Americans are concerned about an Ebola outbreak in the United States and support the imposition of flight restrictions from Ebola-hit countries in West Africa, a new poll by the Washington Post and ABC News released Tuesday revealed.

According to the poll, 67 percent of people say they would support restricting entry to the United States from countries battling the Ebola epidemic while 65 percent express concern over an outbreak of the disease in the United States.

Some 91 percent of those polled said they want stricter screening procedures at US airports. Despite a broad concern regarding the virus, only 43 percent fear the illness could infect them or someone in their family.

Some countries in Europe such as France and the United Kingdom have already restricted flights from Ebola-hit countries which include Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and the republic of Congo.

US lawmakers are calling for similar bans however the White House has not responded to the proposal yet claiming the measure would hinder the efforts of aid workers and supplies reaching those affected by Ebola.

The Ebola epidemic in West Africa broke out in southern Guinea in February, and later spread across Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Senegal.

The deadly virus has already reached two other continents infecting two people in the United States, and one person in Spain. Several people have entered the United States and the European Union after having already contracted Ebola in the infected West African countries
