MOSCOW, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - A health worker who helped to care for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the US, and who died on Wednesday, has been tested positive for the Ebola virus, the CNN reported Sunday.

"We knew a second case could be a reality, and we've been preparing for this possibility," Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

"We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread,” he added.

The case, which occurred at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital is to undergo confirmatory tests by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.

If confirmed, the case would be the second diagnosis of Ebola in the US.

So far, there are at least 4,033 recorded deaths and over 8,300 people confirmed or suspected to have contracted the virus, according to the latest WHO records.

The outbreak began in southern Guinea in February and has since spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.
