DONETSK, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - The elections of the leader and the parliament of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in eastern Ukraine are to be held on November 2 as previously planned, despite Central Election Commission's request to move the date of the vote, the head of the Commission told the press Sunday.

"The Supreme Council [of the DPR] has considered possible to retain the second [of November] as the election date. The Central Election Commission, though, had insisted [on moving the date of the vote], and we really needed this week. We will speed up even more and will be in time, we will manage to do this," Roman Lyagin said.

Earlier, the DPR Central Election Commission offered to postpone the election from November 2 to November 9 claiming it does not have enough time to carry out all necessary arrangements for the upcoming elections.

Eastern Ukraine's self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's republics broke away from Kiev following independence referendums in May, weeks after the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation aimed at suppressing local pro-independence forces.
