BALI, INDONESIA, October 12 (RIA Novosti) – A 5.2-magnitude earthquake occurred late Saturday-early Sunday near the west coast of the Indonesian main island of Java, with no warning about a possible in such cases tsunami, Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) has told RIA Novosti.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 96 kilometers (some 60 miles) to the northwest of Pandeglang City in the Banten province. The earthquake focus was only 10 kilometers (about six miles) below the Sunda Strait.

There has been no information so far about casualties or any destruction caused by the earthquake.

However, natural disasters in Indonesia can lead tragic consequences. A 5.9-magnitude earthquake near Java in 2006 claimed the lives of 6,500 people, with up to 80 percent of the buildings in the town of Bantul being destroyed.
