MOSCOW, October 7 (RIA Novosti) – A European art-group on Tuesday established a 9.8-feet figure of Russian President Vladimir Putin in place of the missing leg of the Broken Chair sculpture in front of the Palace of Nations, in Geneva, to commemorate his peacekeeping efforts.

The campaign is intended to draw public attention to the Russian leader’s efforts to support those in need and prevent human suffering in areas of the world where it is necessary.

The art action took place on October 7, on Vladimir Putin's 62nd birthday.

Broken Chair is a project by Paul Vermeulen, co-founder and director of Handicap International Suisse. It depicts a giant chair with a broken leg and symbolizes opposition to land mines and cluster bombs.

The sculpture by Swiss artist Daniel Berset was erected in front of the main entrance to the Palace of Nations, the home of the UN Office at Geneva, in August 1997, where it was initially intended to stay for three months, until the signing of the Ottawa Treaty, but strong public support for the sculpture has meant that it has remained where it is.
