MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - More protesters have joined demonstrations in the Mong Kok district of Hong Kong after Occupy Central supporters came under attack from an angry pro-government mob, CNN reported Friday.

Earlier in the day, "large crowds" opposing the Occupy Central demonstrations attacked protesters in the densely populated Mong Kok district, trying to force them to leave, CNN reported.

According to the news channel, more pro-Occupy Central protesters have arrived at the site following the attack.

Student protest leaders warned that if the government failed to prevent "organized attacks" on the demonstrators, students would call off dialogue on political reform.

Hong Kong police urged protesters to disperse after the clashes, warning that those remaining in the area could face arrest.

Occupy Central coordinators called for the protesters in Mong Kok to move to the area of Admiralty, stating that "safety is priority in the face of violent attacks".

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Hong Kong in recent days to take part in protests against the Chinese government's plans to control the 2017 Hong Kong election.

Protesters claim Beijing has gone back on its pledge to allow universal suffrage in Hong Kong, which was promised a high degree of autonomy when it was handed back to China by Britain in 1997.
