GAZA, October 02 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst -A doctor working at the al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, has told RIA Novosti on Thursday that Israel has learned no lessons from pushing the Palestinians to the point of despair and no hope.
"People are now focused on reconstruction, but there has been no talks on even easing the [Israeli] blockade or lifting the ban on construction material so that the well-to-do can manage to do something," Dr Belal Dabour, a Palestinian doctor, told RIA Novosti. "One would think that Israel learned not to push the society to such low levels of hope, but no," Dabour added.
Dabour also noted that the 100,000 housing units deficient in Gaza made local rents skyrocket. "As a result, the general atmosphere is one of anticipation and, somehow, one of despair," he said.
According to Dabour the medical crisis within the hospitals in Gaza has deteriorated so much that people no longer care to apportion blame. "The crisis in the hospitals is so chronic that no one cares to throw the blame at anyone anymore," Dabour said.
"It is unfortunate, but this is the gloomy image here," he added.
The Palestinian Authority and Israel reached an Egyptian mediated truce on August 26 that ended a conflict that last 50 days and according to the UN killed over 2,100 Palestinians and 71 Israelis.
The two sides are expected to restart talks at the end of October.
