MOSCOW, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - A new social network, Ello, is positioning itself as the “anti-Facebook” and is gaining more and more popularity every hour, Deutsche Welle reports.

Ello was founded by an American bicycle shop owner Paul Budnitz. According to him, the new social network is currently receiving 31,000 invitation requests every hour, despite its relatively simple design and lack of many advanced applications.

In comparison to traditional Facebook and Twitter, which Internet users have grown accustomed to, Ello’s website has a very minimalist design. Its users cannot add their friends from other social networks, send private messages and use several other common social network functions.

However, Ello is a good alternative for those dissatisfied with existing networks and their users’ private data policy. According to Budnitz, Ello is “not a tool to deceive, coerce, and manipulate — but a place to connect, create, and celebrate life," as cited by New York Magazine. He announced the new social network would respect the privacy of its users, being an advert-free website and refusing to sell out personal information.
