DONETSK, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - Explosions and bursts are still being heard in the Donetsk region, Donetsk City Council reported on Saturday, citing witness reports.

"Sounds of bursts and explosions, according to residents, are heard in Kirov, Kuibyshev and Kiev regions," reads the statement of the City Council published on its official website.

Earlier reports suggested intensive shelling in the city of Donetsk and its suburban areas on Saturday. The Ukrainian army was reportedly firing heavy weapons from the area of Khanzhonkov.

According to witnesses, several residential buildings were destroyed. In addition, Ukrainian forces launched an attack on a military factory in Donetsk.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, a Russian humanitarian convoy arrived in Donetsk, carrying water, food, generators and medication for the population of the troubled region.

A ceasefire agreement between Kiev and independence supporters in Donbas region was established on September 5 during a meeting in Minsk of the trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine. The warring sides have repeatedly blamed each other for violating the ceasefire, however, both sides state that it for the most part is being upheld, which has also been confirmed by international observers.

On September 19, a memorandum was drawn up by the Contact Group that stipulates a full ceasefire and the establishment of a thirty-kilometer security zone on the current line of contact under the supervision of the OSCE.
