MOSCOW, September 13 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Red Cross Society representatives are not accompanying the second convoy carrying Russian humanitarian aid to violence-torn eastern regions of Ukraine, Raisa Lukutsova, the head of the organization, told RIA Novosti Saturday.

“No escort,” Lukutsova said, answering a question about whether the trucks are being escorted by the Russian Red Cross representatives.

Earlier in the day, Russian customs officers confirmed that the customs procedures for all Russian trucks with aid for Ukraine were completed.

On Friday, the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic said that Moscow had formally notified it that the second Russian humanitarian aid convoy would arrive Saturday. The convoy includes 200 trucks that are carrying canned food, sugar, flour and other aid of a total weight of 1,880 thousand tons.

The first convoy of 280 trucks carrying about 2,000 tons of Russian humanitarian aid was sent to eastern Ukraine in late August and entered the country through a checkpoint controlled by independence forces after spending more than a week waiting at the border.

Residents of the conflict-ravaged Luhansk, who had been living for several weeks on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe, greeted the aid delivery.
