EDINBURGH, September 12 (RIA Novosti) – A new opinion poll published in The Times and The Sun newspapers Friday has shown the anti-Scottish independence Better Together campaign has slightly increased its lead following a previous survey earlier this week that put the Yes side marginally ahead.

The poll conducted by YouGov just one week ahead of the vote put the pro-UK campaigners on 52 percent, compared to 48 percent for the pro-Scottish independence campaign.

Blair Jenkins of the pro-independence Yes Scotland campaign said, "At 48 percent for Yes, this poll confirms that the referendum is neck and neck- we are in touching distance of success next Thursday, and there is everything to play for. It will spur on everybody who wants and is working hard for a Yes to redouble their efforts."

On September 18, Scotland is scheduled to hold a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom. The voters will be asked one question, "Should Scotland become an independent country?"
