MOSCOW, September 12 (RIA Novosti) - The Koktebel Jazz Party, a festival organized by the International News Agency Rossiya Segodnya in conjunction with the Russian Ministry of Culture, opened Friday in Crimea.

The Koktebel Jazz Party opens its doors to young talent and introduces audiences to world-famous musicians. One of its primary goals is to challenge the stereotype that is jazz is obsolete.

The festival will be held from September 12-15 in Crimea and will be one of the landmark events in the Year of Culture, with musicians arriving from all over the world.

Another event, the Koktebel Jazz Festival, has been held in Koktebel, one of the most popular resort towns in southeastern Crimea, since 2003, but its 12th festival was moved to the Odesa Region, Ukraine, following Crimea becoming part of Russia.

According to Rossiya Segodnya’s Director General Dmitry Kiselev, the Koktebel Jazz Party will infuse jazz in Koktebel with new life.

Over the course of four days, the Koktebel Jazz Party will offer a platform to not only the best jazz groups from different Russian regions, such as Moscow, Arkhangelsk, Tuva and St. Petersburg, but also from Brazil, the United States, Israel, the United Kingdom, India, Armenia, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The event will take place on several stages. The open-air Main Stage is located on the beach and will be open every day from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. for performances by jazz stars, such as Pyotr Vostokov’s Great Jazz Orchestra, the Anton Gorbunov quintet, Andrei Kondakov and the Brazil All Stars, Denis Shvytov and the Silver Woman Project, Huun-Huur-Tu, Vladimir Ivanov and the Ornithology Group, the Ivan Farmakovsky Quartet, the Alex Hutchings Band, the Vahagn Hayrapetyan Quartet and Anna Buturlina, Club des Belugas, JVL Big Band, Sergei Golovnya and Karina Kozhevnikova.

Headliners include the Yakov Okun International Jazz Quartet and Deborah Brown, Valery Ponomarev and the Art Blakey We Remember Sextet, Tom Harrell and The Jamal Thomas Band.

The Open Stage will be reserved for performances by young musicians on September 13 and 14 from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There will also be a stage for fans of classic blues and jazz in the courtyard of the Maximilian Voloshin Museum House. A performance by the Korovin and Phaghot Duet, the opening and closing ceremonies, a lecture – Today He’s Playing Jazz. A History of Soviet, Russian and International Jazz – accompanied by the Sergei Golovnya group, will all take place there.
