MOSCOW, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - Jordan expresses support for the efforts in resisting terrorism and extremism, said King Abdullah II at a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

"Jordan supports local and international efforts to fight terrorism and prevent extremism from spreading, realizing that terrorist and extremist groups pose a direct threat to the security and stability of Middle East and the entire world," the Jordanian administration quoted the king in its statement concerning the bilateral meeting in Amman on Wednesday.

The US secretary of state is currently paying visits to the Middle Eastern countries in an attempt to encourage the states to create an international coalition to fight terrorism, the Islamic State (IS) in particular.

On Thursday, Kerry is expected to meet the foreign ministers of Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG), which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

On Wednesday, the secretary of state also visited Baghdad where he met with the new Iraqi authorities and spoke of the reforms needed for the Iraqi Army to successfully fight against IS forces.

Islamic State is an extremist group that has been fighting in Syria and Iraq and managed to capture large territories, where they announced the establishment of the caliphate. IS militants continue their operation in Iraq aiming to take Baghdad.
