NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 9 (RIA Novosti) – The White House will host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 29-30, even though he was barred from the entering the US less than a decade ago over massacres of Muslims.

“The two leaders will discuss a range of issues of mutual interest in order to expand and deepen the US-India strategic partnership,” the White House said in a statement on Monday. “They will discuss ways to accelerate economic growth, bolster security cooperation, and collaborate in activities that bring long-term benefits to both countries and the world.”

Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies swept to victory in India's elections in May. Modi was denied a US visa in 2005 over the killing in 2002 of more than 1,000 people, mostly-Muslims, during sectarian riots in the state of Gujarat, where he had recently become chief minister.
