MOSCOW, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - The Anglican-supported Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which provided critical healthcare to the victims of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict may have even more severe injuries and trauma to treat in the future, the Bishop in Jerusalem Suheil Dawani wrote in a message to the Anglican Communion.

“Long-term care at the hospital is needed for those with severe injuries, while thousands of people are receiving psychosocial support to deal with the impact of the war,” Bishop Dawani was quoted by the Anglican media Monday, adding that rebuilding Gaza will be “a huge task.”

According to the message, the hospital has been treating 45 people a day for burns and 120 for diseases caused by the lack of sanitation, water and food. It has also distributed first-aid packages to community-based organizations. Unlike many other hospitals in the conflict-ridden zone, Al-Ahli Arab was not damaged, but one of the hospital’s nurses was killed during a bombardment.

More than 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have lost their lives in the conflict in Gaza since the beginning of Israel’s Operation Protective Edge against the Hamas movement on July 8. The Israeli death toll stands at 72 people – 65 soldiers and 7 civilians.

On August 26, Israel and Palestine agreed on an open-ended ceasefire.
