ROME, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Dozens of people protested against the Kiev’s actions in eastern Ukraine in Venice on Saturday night, just before the awards ceremony at the Venice Film Festival.

"We wanted to draw attention to what is happening in Ukraine, in Donbass [eastern regions of Ukraine], tell about what is really going on. Because we believe that the European news outlets have erected information blockade, they did it with a specific purpose - to misinform people. But people are starting to realize that what is happening in Ukraine cannot be of no concern to Europe, " said one of the organizers of the event, Sergei.

Some 60 people gathered near Cinema Palace to take part in the demonstration, including Russian, Ukrainian and Italian citizens.

Activists handed out leaflets describing a third world war being instigated in Ukraine and calling to stop “the annihilation of the population of eastern Ukraine." The event caught eye of many guests of the festival, according to Sergei.

Ukraine has been engulfed in violent internal conflict since mid-April, when Kiev began its military operation against independence supporters in the southeastern regions of the country. According to United Nations’ estimates, over 2,500 people have been killed and more than 6,000 wounded since the start of the offensive.
