Russian journalists are being “barbarously destroyed” in Ukraine, Moscow Union of Journalists head Pavel Gusev told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, commenting on the confirmation of the death of Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who went missing in eastern Ukraine in August.

MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian journalists are being “barbarously destroyed” in Ukraine, Moscow Union of Journalists head Pavel Gusev told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, commenting on the confirmation of the death of Rossiya Segodnya photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who went missing in eastern Ukraine in August.

Gusev added that Stenin’s death has once again “shown that our journalists are being killed in Ukraine, and this is mayhem. Destroying journalists in such barbarous way, by burning, attempting to cover the tracks is just ferocious.”

“I can only give my condolences to his family. Many hoped the probe’s results would not be confirmed," he noted.

“It’s scary that a journalist has become such a profession,” Gusev stressed. “This indicates that we are being feared, feared for our truth, our words. But we have to understand that this is our responsibility.”

According to the examination results released by the Russian Investigative Committee on Wednesday, Stenin was killed in early August during a Ukrainian military attack on a refugee convoy when the car he was traveling in while on an editorial assignment was shelled.
