150 electric car charging stations are expected to be installed in Moscow by the end of the year, the Department of Transport reports.

MOSCOW, September 2 (RIA Novosti) - 150 electric car charging stations are expected to be installed in Moscow by the end of the year, the Department of Transport reports.

“Over the next years we have to create full infrastructure for the use of electric cars,” said Maxim Liksutov, Moscow Mayor Deputy on Transport Affairs.

The charging stations will be placed in non-free parking zones. They will be designed according to transport and urban development policy, concurrently taking into account the needs of automobile owners. According to the press-service of the Department of Transport, electric car owners will have access to an extended convenient network of charging stations as well as significant benefits for the use of this transport infrastructure and preferred parking spaces.

The first EV charging station, belonging to the Moscow United Electric Grid Company, was established in 2012 following the release of Russia’s first electric car -  Lada Ellada, produced by one of the largest Russian automotive companies AvtoVAZ.

Currently, there are a total of 28 electric vehicle charging stations in Moscow. The expansion of the chain and increased use of electric cars will contribute to improving the capital’s environment, since the vehicles give off no emissions and facilitate significant reduction in air pollution.
