On September 1, 2004 School #1 in North Ossetia’s town of Beslan was attacked by armed Islamists. Over 800 students and 60 teachers were in attendance that day along with their families.

The next day, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held an emergency session, where they blamed the terrorists for their actions, asking the latter to free the hostages. However, the terrorists completely ignored to the request of the UNSC.
