MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will not participate in the upcoming NATO summit in Wales at the beginning of September as it was not invited, Kommersant business daily reported Monday.

"Given the current conditions, Moscow did not count on it," the paper quoted Russian diplomatic sources as saying, although the country's representatives received invitations to similar summits before.

The paper's sources in the NATO headquarters said Russia's participation in the upcoming summit was deemed "unreasonable.”

The summit is expected to attract the leaders of more than 60 countries to discuss topics concerning Russia, such as the NATO-Russia relations, as well as strengthening ties with Ukraine and enhancing the collective defense of the alliance.

The summit's discussion will focus on "the evolution of partnerships" of NATO with the non-members and the "narrative for the Post-2014 Era" of the relevance of NATO's existence in the post-Cold War era and its future after the US troops withdraw from Afghanistan at the end of this year.
