18 Killed, 13 Missing in Japan's Hiroshima Landslides

MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Landslides caused by torrential rain have killed 18 people, including a child, in Japan's Hiroshima Prefecture on the country's largest island of Honshu, NHK reported Wednesday.

“18 people, including a 2-year-old child, are dead. Firefighters are also trying to establish the whereabouts of about 13 residents after landslides,” Japan's national public broadcasting organization reported.

A record breaking 204 millimeters of precipitation was observed in just three hours in the city of Hiroshima on Wednesday, surpassing the total monthly average for August, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Heavy rain is also falling in the Nagasaki Prefecture and other parts of western Japan.
