Russia’s human rights ombudsman Ella Pamfilova said Friday her Ukrainian counterpart Valeriya Lutkovska has formally requested Ukraine’s law enforcement bodies to help locate missing Rossiya Segodnya photographer Andrei Stenin.

SEVASTOPOL, August 15 (RIA Novosti) — Russia’s human rights ombudsman Ella Pamfilova said Friday her Ukrainian counterpart Valeriya Lutkovska has formally requested Ukraine’s law enforcement bodies to help locate missing Rossiya Segodnya photographer Andrei Stenin (#freeAndrew).

Pamfilova earlier sought Lutkovska’s assistance in locating the photographer and returning him to Russia.

"We keep contact all the time. She [Lutkovska] has filed requests with relevant authorities," Pamfilova said.

Photographer Andrei Stenin went missing on August 5, while on assignment in eastern Ukraine. Stenin’s current location is still unknown.

On August 12, Anton Herashchenko, an aide to Ukraine’s minister of internal affairs, said in an interview with Baltkom radio that Stenin had been arrested by the Ukrainian Security Service on charges of aiding terrorists. Later, however, the official claimed his statement was misunderstood, as he had no precise information on Stenin’s location and had only offered a possible suggestion.

Baltkom said it had a recording of Herashchenko’s interview and provided it to Rossiya Segodnya.

Russia has already filed two diplomatic notes to Ukraine over Stenin’s case, with the latest one issued earlier today urging Kiev to comment on Herashchenko’s statement.
