NARYAN-MAR, August 7 (RIA Novosti) - The United States is the only Arctic Council member state which did not send its delegation to the international meeting in Naryan-Mar, the Russian president's special envoy for international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic Artur Chilingarov said Thursday.
“The representatives of all the permanent member states, apart from the US, have arrived at this international meeting,” said Chilingarov.
The permanent members of the Arctic Council include Russia, USA, Canada, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
The delegations from the observer states of China, South Korea, Singapore and India have also arrived at the meeting, Chilingarov added.
The Fourth International Meeting of the Arctic Council member states is held in Naryan-Mar under the auspices of the Russian Security Council on August 6-7.
Among the main topics discussed are the issues of safety in the Arctic, infrastructure, and the Northern Sea Route.
